The Book Sacrifice Tag!

Image
Hello, internet! It's been a few weeks since I posted something, and I thought I should do a tag! The rules are simple: You are given a scenario in which you have to sacrifice a certain book. That's it. If the book I sacrifice is a favorite of yours, then sorry. We're both entitled to our opinions, and that's totally fine. Scenario 1: Let's start this off with a Zombie Apocalypse! Let's say you're in a book store, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK. An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies' only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out? Answer: Please, please don't hate me. I choose the Maze Runner series by James Dashner. I read the first book, and it really wasn't interesting to me. Maybe someday I'...

October Wrap Up

Image
Hello, Internet! This is a little bit overdue, so I apologize. Among the stress and rapidness of my life, I love the fact that, even though I’m not posting as much as I used to, I can come and write something down for my blog, because it’s what I love to do: talk about books. So it comes the time for another wrap up, so let’s get started, shall we? In the month of October, I finished three books, started one, and abandoned two. I’m pretty proud of myself, because I’ve been feeling myself slipping into yet another reading slump. Either that, or a book hangover that was induced by… The first book I read this month, which was Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I gave this book 4 ½ stars. Red Queen was a book that I was mentally debating reading because I was scared that the hype about it would be wrong. So many people have said that it’s amazing, but on the other hand, so many have said that it’s disappointing. NOT FOR ME SUCKAS! Red Queen was phenomenal! I loved it so much! One...

The Screaming Staircase Spoiler-Free (for the most part) Review

Image
Hello, Internet! I'm going to be honest, The Screaming Staircase was a hard book to get into for me. When it would usually take me a week, maybe a week and a half to read a book this size, it took me almost a whole four weeks, because it was hard to get interested. That might be due to the fact that this series seems like middle grade, and I'm not usually into those types of books. But I kept reading, mostly because I was recommended it and that person really wanted me to do a review (hey what's up) but it also has gotten so many good reviews and I wanted to see what it was like. And man, did it end good! Up until the part where Lockwood, Lucy, and George get to Combe Carey Hall, the book is pretty uneventful. Sure, they go on a hunt at the beginning and set a house on fire, blah blah blah, but the real action gets there when Fairfax comes into the picture. As they go through the Red Room and the Screaming Staircase, the mystery of Annabel Ward's murder unfolds....

September Wrap Up + September Book Haul

Image
Hello, Internet! It is October now, and you know what that means: IT’S AUTUMN! Also, it’s time for another wrap-up. So without further ado, let’s get to my September reads! Holy crap guys, I read a lot of books this month, and bought even more to put on my shelf. It was great. Theeee first book I read this month was Famous Last Words by Katie Alender. Willa is slowly adjusting to her new life in Hollywood, California with a new dad and new friends, but a notorious serial killer is at large. He’s kidnapping girls and reenacting famous movie scenes, killing them in the process. But that’s not Willa’s only problem. There’s a ghost in her house, one who keeps messing with her, but Willa starts to believe that the ghost is warning her, but of what? I have to be honest, I was very skeptical about this book. The paranormal-mystery genre isn’t really my thing, but I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, exciting, and kept me on the edge of my seat! If you’re interested in chec...

August Wrap Up

Image
Hello, Internet! Ring the shame bell, go ahead, because I only finished three books this month. Shame. Now, you may be thinking, “Ariana, three books in a month is normal!” Not for me, it’s not. Le sigh, for I have been hit with a reading slump. Duh duh duuuuuuuuun! That is right, chicken pies, I have been in a reading slump for most of the month of August. I only finished two books, and I started three, but didn’t finish them. I’ll mention them in the wrap up anyway. Do you know what I’ve learned in the past three weeks? School is time consuming! And this is before my extra curricular activities. And you might have noticed that the title and thumbnail only say August Wrap Up, and not September TBR. That is simply because setting goals for me is hard. I’m am probably the biggest procrastinator you may ever have the pleasure of meeting in your life, so I am no longer going to set reading goals for fear of getting into another reading slump and letting myself and you d...

August Book Haul!

Image
Hello, Internet! My birthday was earlier this month, and that means one thing: Barnes & Noble gift cards! And pineapple pizza from Imos, but that's another story. So I went to the mall last week and today so OF COURSE I had to go to B&N. I mean, it's me. The grand total of books I got was five, and I'm really happy with myself. Let's get to the haul! The first book I picked up was An Author's Odyssey by Chris Colfer. It is (sadly) the last installment of The Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer. Now, I don't know if it's my reading slump talking, but when I picked up the first TLOS book a few years back, I really liked it. As I'm reading the sixth book now, it seems more like it's for ten year olds. Which it is. The Land of Stories is somewhere in between middle-grade novel and children's books. I don't dislike it anymore, I still love it, it's (for lack of better words) less mature than I remember it. Nevertheless, I'...

July Wrap Up & August TBR!

Image
Hello, internet! Honestly, I don't even think that I need to explain what I'm doing. If you read my first wrap up and TBR, you probably understand the gist of it. So without further ado, let's get started. The first book I read in July was The Loose Ends List by Carrie Firestone. When Maddie O'Neill's grandmother comes down with a terminal illness, Maddie has to navigate love and loss while on a 'death with dignity' cruise. I gave this book five stars. It's just the kind that sticks to you, and you can check out my review here . The next book I read was Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. Well, I actually read the whole series. The sons and daughters of fallen angels lives depend on being bad influences, but when Anna Whitt discovers the life she was supposed to have, things get a little tricky. Born of an angel and a demon, she has a choice: halo or horns. I gave this book four stars. It was pretty good. The next book I read was The Geography of You an...
