The (unofficial) 2016 Book Awards!

Image
Hello, Internet! Tons of people have been posting their favorite books of 2016 lately, and I will be doing that today, but I’m going to spice it up with a couple more things. I feel like 2016 was a good year for me, in terms of books. I opened myself into some books that I was hesitant to read, and I’m really proud of myself for that. Other than that, it was garbage fire on wheels kind of year. I think it was like that for a lot of people too. But we’re not talking about the depressing twelve months that was 2016, we’re talking about books. This year, I started reading more high fantasy books, which is a genre that I’m generally kind of intimidated by. Being thrust into a completely different world with unfamiliar terms was very unsettling to me, but I found that I really, really enjoyed it. I also started getting more into audiobooks. My thing with audiobooks is that I really only like to listen to them if I’ve physically read the book first. I just have this fear that if

November Wrap Up

Image
Hello, Internet! My, my, hasn’t the time flown by? I didn’t realize that I didn’t post a November wrap up, so I’m sitting at my kitchen table at eleven pm on a Thursday, writing it up. pro·cras·ti·na·tion prəˌkrastəˈnāSH(ə)n/ noun the action of delaying or postponing something. Right then. Let’s stop procrastinating (i'm hilarious) and get to the wrap up! This month I finished an astonishing six books! I’m actually really proud of myself. Not only that, but I re-arranged my bookshelf so that it looks like a rainbow! It makes me very happy. Sorry, I got off topic. Back to the wrap up! I started this first book in October and finished it in November, so technically I finished it in November, so we’re counting it. I read The Black Key by Amy Ewing, which is the third and final book in The Lone City series. And boy oh boy, what a great book! The series pulled me in right from the start, and this was just an amazing way to end the series. I’ll leave a link

The Book Sacrifice Tag!

Image
Hello, internet! It's been a few weeks since I posted something, and I thought I should do a tag! The rules are simple: You are given a scenario in which you have to sacrifice a certain book. That's it. If the book I sacrifice is a favorite of yours, then sorry. We're both entitled to our opinions, and that's totally fine. Scenario 1: Let's start this off with a Zombie Apocalypse! Let's say you're in a book store, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK. An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies' only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out? Answer: Please, please don't hate me. I choose the Maze Runner series by James Dashner. I read the first book, and it really wasn't interesting to me. Maybe someday I'

October Wrap Up

Image
Hello, Internet! This is a little bit overdue, so I apologize. Among the stress and rapidness of my life, I love the fact that, even though I’m not posting as much as I used to, I can come and write something down for my blog, because it’s what I love to do: talk about books. So it comes the time for another wrap up, so let’s get started, shall we? In the month of October, I finished three books, started one, and abandoned two. I’m pretty proud of myself, because I’ve been feeling myself slipping into yet another reading slump. Either that, or a book hangover that was induced by… The first book I read this month, which was Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I gave this book 4 ½ stars. Red Queen was a book that I was mentally debating reading because I was scared that the hype about it would be wrong. So many people have said that it’s amazing, but on the other hand, so many have said that it’s disappointing. NOT FOR ME SUCKAS! Red Queen was phenomenal! I loved it so much! One

The Screaming Staircase Spoiler-Free (for the most part) Review

Image
Hello, Internet! I'm going to be honest, The Screaming Staircase was a hard book to get into for me. When it would usually take me a week, maybe a week and a half to read a book this size, it took me almost a whole four weeks, because it was hard to get interested. That might be due to the fact that this series seems like middle grade, and I'm not usually into those types of books. But I kept reading, mostly because I was recommended it and that person really wanted me to do a review (hey what's up) but it also has gotten so many good reviews and I wanted to see what it was like. And man, did it end good! Up until the part where Lockwood, Lucy, and George get to Combe Carey Hall, the book is pretty uneventful. Sure, they go on a hunt at the beginning and set a house on fire, blah blah blah, but the real action gets there when Fairfax comes into the picture. As they go through the Red Room and the Screaming Staircase, the mystery of Annabel Ward's murder unfolds.

September Wrap Up + September Book Haul

Image
Hello, Internet! It is October now, and you know what that means: IT’S AUTUMN! Also, it’s time for another wrap-up. So without further ado, let’s get to my September reads! Holy crap guys, I read a lot of books this month, and bought even more to put on my shelf. It was great. Theeee first book I read this month was Famous Last Words by Katie Alender. Willa is slowly adjusting to her new life in Hollywood, California with a new dad and new friends, but a notorious serial killer is at large. He’s kidnapping girls and reenacting famous movie scenes, killing them in the process. But that’s not Willa’s only problem. There’s a ghost in her house, one who keeps messing with her, but Willa starts to believe that the ghost is warning her, but of what? I have to be honest, I was very skeptical about this book. The paranormal-mystery genre isn’t really my thing, but I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, exciting, and kept me on the edge of my seat! If you’re interested in chec
