Fallen series by Lauren Kate Book Review

Hello, internet! Recently I finished the Fallen series by Lauren Kate, and I have to say, it wasn't that great. Now, listen here. I like most of the books I read, except for a few special ones that didn't really float my boat, and the Fallen series was one of them. But it didn't totally suck. It was a disappointment, though. I love books with a pretty dress on the cover. But it wasn't just the cover that had spiked my interest. I had read the synopsis on Goodreads, and it really had seemed like something I would enjoy. Well, I was wrong. Though I did enjoy the first book, it went downhill from there.

The Fallen series is about a girl, Luce, who falls in love with a boy, Daniel, at her reform school. She soon finds out that he is actually a fallen angel, and she is part of a curse that has lasted for thousands of years. They have spent centuries finding and losing each other while the forces of good and evil attempt to keep them apart.

I have no problems with the plot. It's the whole reason I wanted to read the book. The problem was with the development of the plot. First, they're just trying to break the curse and love each other without the fear of Luce combusting into a column of flames, next thing you know, they're smack dab in the middle of a war with Lucifer. And each book was just so different from each other. It's almost like I was reading a separate series.

My next problem was Luce's character. I feel like she was just there, for no reason other than being the other half of a relationship. She really just let Daniel do everything. No, I don't dislike her personality. I dislike the fact that she could have been doing so much more, yet she just sat there with nothing better to do than kiss Daniel and be the 'main character'.

I give this book 2 3/4 stars. Did I completely hate it? No. Would I recommend it? Not really. Will I continue reading Lauren Kate's work? Of course! I like her writing style, I just didn't enjoy this series very much.

Well, that's it for today. Thanks for reading,

-Ari
