The Burn for Burn Trilogy by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian Book Review
This review contains spoilers for the Burn for Burn Trilogy: Read at your own risk
The Burn for Burn trilogy focuses on three girls: Kat, Lillia, and Mary, who are all looking for one thing. Revenge.
The plot is what initially drew me into this book. Well, that and the cover. It's about getting revenge on the people who have wronged you, and it just so cliche. And you know how I'm all about those cliches. The first book is about their initial plans for revenge, but at the end, things don't go so well. I love the characters so much. Kat is definitly my favorite. She is just so kick butt, and I love that about her. The authors made Lillia a rich girl, and I love the fact that she isn't the wealthy girl you would expect. She isn't snotty, and though she does have her 'privileged-moments' as I like to call them, they aren't very extreme. And then we get to Mary (slight spoilers ahead)
As I read the first book, I loved Mary. Though her character was a little weak, she was still enjoyable to read about. Then you get to the second book. As her paranormal twist is revealed, she gets a little more...aggressive. And in the third book, she's downright bloodthirsty. I was screaming and raging the whole time.
Thoughts I Had About Mad-Mary While Reading Ashes to Ashes:
Okay Mary, calm down
Reeve isn't that bad
Mary is insane she needs to chill
MARY CHILL OUT
eeehhhgggg whyyyyyyyyyy
THE RAGE I CAN'T
See what you did, Mary? BUT YOU GOT WHAT CAME TO YA
Oh, okay, that's kind of sad. I forgive you now
I then proceeded to finish the book, and to put it simply, the ending sucked.
So many things were just left there, in the void. (Spoiler ahead, ignore the highlighted bit if you have not read the trilogy) Even though Reeve was kind of a jerk in the first two books, you can't help but what Lillia and Reeve to be together in the end, but they aren't! They pretty much don't even talk anymore. And I for one thought that Alex needed to grow a pair and admit his feelings for Kat. They pretty much just go on with life, even though Mad-Mary happened. But that's pretty much the only downside to this book. It has a pretty dark side to it, but other than that, I really recommend it.
Well, that's it for now. It wasn't a very long review, but hey. Thanks for reading,
-Ari
